A Conversation for Venice, Italy

The pigeon hordes really do put Trafalgar Square to shame. If you want to be covered in pigeons the real way, do it in Venice.

Venice is the MOST quiet city in the world due to a complete absence of automobiles. This might not sound like a big deal, but it becomes refreshingly very noticable. A great place to go if you want to relax and get some serious stess relief. The town can take on a very deserted appearance late at night.

On the other hand, if you're looking to find stress, fly to LA and drive a car around for a few days.

Wow, no cars? What a great idea!

I've often thought some forward-thinking bunch here in the States should start designing cities without public traffic access. Only problem: how do you get merchandise or goods to the stores without trucks?

Yeah, you're going to pay for it somehow. It works in Venice, because its a rather small city, so you can walk practically anywhere. It's got rather a large port, and serviced by a good railway at the top of the islands. I think most of the goods must be transported on the canals after that.

Maybe the only way to do it is to create a waterway network, give everyone a small mooring outside their house, and figure out how to not make it sink.

I think if anyone develops anything like this today will make a lot of money, because the lack of irritable noise is really something.
