BR: My Entry was half eaten

I was editing A87798163 in Brunel and Firefox. Just beforehand, My Space and other pages were loading quite slowly (only showing the top half, and then the bottom half would appear later).

I edited the page, and then noticed that only the top section up to "variegated (" had appeared. When I tried to Update Entry, it complained that there was no closing tag for BODY and GUIDE.

I'm putting it back together again now from the copy that was saved in my browser cache (luckily)

Oh... we usually have more trouble in Pliny than in the Ripley skins. This was unfortunate, but I'm glad you were able to rescue the text.

All I can recommend is to save often, and try to work out as much as possible of your text in Notepad, and do the GuideML when the entry is almost complete.

Sorry about this, I hope we can solve the editor problems.

Thanks for the replies - much appreciated smiley - biggrin

Hopefully it was just a one off blip - brunel is loading quickly today, so I edited my Entry with no problem and all the text loaded as expected.

Definitely a reminder to me to keep a copy outside my browser just in case, though, and I'll make sure the whole page has loaded before attempting to Update anything.

smiley - ok

Strangely, I'm seeing <?> question marks in black diamonds in Brunel today (eg for ° or curly apostrophes) which is new...

Loading times are better, anyway, so hopefully it won't be a problem.

Those question mark things are when a browser doesn't understand a special character, such as the ones you mentioned.

You shouldn't see those with h2g2, because we've set it up to handle them properly. I'd guess though that the servers were being maintained and that might have caused some issues.

Thanks Pastey

There must have been something wrong with my browser yesterday, then, but I shut down my computer properly last night rather than "hibernating" it, and everything is fine today.

smiley - ok
