Today's entry: How I Scared My Dad: A87815028
To recapitulate:
This journal is an extension of the h2g2 Post's 'Oddity of the Week' column. I've been trying to get h2g2ers to help me write that column for over a year now, and I'm getting desperate. So this NaJoPoMo has two main goals:
1. By turning 'Oddity of the Week' into 'Oddity of the Day', just for a month, to encourage more people to read the h2g2 Post.
2. To entice people to find their own Oddities. All of these images come from the Library of Congress. Remember: an Oddity has to be either certified public domain, or your own, personal property. If you've got one for us, send it to postteamhg-at-gmail-dot-com. And include some FACTS. No fair making us guess what it is. If you want to be a quiz, say so, and we can make two pages out of it.
Along with the facts, I'm including a personal anecdote with each day's picture, which I hope will be at least marginally amusing. I picked these images, because I had some association with the place. I might be scraping geographical acquaintance here and there, but I hope I've chosen places you'd enjoy knowing about.
PS If anyone would like to contribute to the weekly Post quiz, too, the Editor would be extremely grateful.

Maybe people are not so interested in 'oddities' Dmitri? Sometimes a good idea seems like that to yourself, but is not shared with the rest of us. I've emailed you some figures on how many actually look at them.
You can always ask me for future figures
Also, if other people wanted to use images for their NaJoPoMo journals, they are unable to do so. It seems a bit unfair on the rest of the participants.

Personally I love an oddity
I think this is a great idea to encourage people to take a look at and to also consider the type of piece that is suitable for submission.
Not just oddities but we have some amazing photographers and on this site.
Perhaps people might think a newspaper is something you write for?
Not something that you can submit pictures, photos and art too, not only can, but is positively encouraged and welcomed
As for other participants thinking this is unfair, I can't imagine that, least of all because it Dmitri doing it, a prolific and imaginative writer for the guide, keeps on the road and the most encouraging and supportive person you could meet, of everyone whatever their endeavours on h2g2

Oooh! I can write some oddity of the weeks! I was going to ask you about it before but I thought it was a "Dmitri column" rather than an open-to-all-comers affair. I'm always coming across little oddities in archives and suchlike. I love poking about in archives.

Ooh, "Oddity of the Week" is a feature I am very interested in reading! Is it in the Post each week? Is there an archive?
Can't volunteer to help with writing about oddities, though. I haven't got enough time, and I don't like writing anyway. But I'd definitely like to become a regular reader.

You can catch up with the Oddities on A87769327. (Under the quizzes in that archive.)
Writing? Nothing to it. It takes only a few words: where it's from, why it's interesting. Or a snarky comment or two.

Thanks, I have subscribed to that archive so I can read the oddities as time permits (i.e., on those increasingly rare occasions where I've got down time at the office and want to look busy so nobody bothers me with more work).
I agree it takes very little effort to come up with some snark. I'll have a look through the archive and see what some previous entries look like, and will let you know if I think I could swing helping out. But I'll want to read them regardless.

Great!
And check in next week - there'll be an Oddity, and an extra-lovely photo essay from Cactuscafe, who's been out on the historical tiles. But we'll list her work in its own archive, as is proper.
I know what you mean about looking busy...this is a cool way to do it. Just tell them it's, er, 'research'...
