Time Travel Photo Journal #2: How I Scared My Dad

Fall Creek Falls

See this waterfall? You might know it, if you're a cinema-goer.

There's a swinging bridge across the gorge at Fall Creek Falls, near this 256-foot waterfall. This fascinated your author as a child. However, running out onto the plank bridge at the age of two turned out to be a mistake – at least, from the parental point of view.(Dad=scared of heights.) Fun, though. The view from the centre of the bridge is breathtaking.

It's the highest free-fall waterfall east of the Mississippi River. You may have seen John Cleese standing next to it. Do you remember Jason Scott Lee cavorting about as Mowgli in the live-action version of The Jungle Book? That wasn't India, as Willem could probably tell. It was, er, Fall Creek Falls. In Tennessee.

In spite of Sam Neill and that movie, there aren't usually any elephants about. However, somewhere in those hills are bears, and cougars, and a lot of deadly snakes. So watch where you're going!
