Interesting but impossible...
Malabarista - now with added pony Started conversation May 6, 2011
So I've just been offered a job - in a pretty cool location, we'd definitely have to organise a meet!
But it's only a part-time job, a two-hour drive away from here, and they want me to start Monday morning. I do kind of have accomodation arranged up there, but not for another week or so. And I have a one-week notice period here, as I told them, so not sure how exactly they think that will work.
Add to that the fact that I have a monster cold and can't talk at all, so I can't do any phoning around, and it just gets complicated...

Damn. You've got to tell them that you can't start on Monday due to your notice period, really. You haven't got anywhere to live, and you've an obligation. The only thing you could do is see if your current job will let you go early; they might agree.
Still. Not fun.

Dunno how I'd move unprepared in a weekend, anyway, even if I got it sorted out.
Just wrote him an e-mail asking for clarification on a few things. For a start, he's still not said what the pay is

Wrote him back and said I'd need it to be a week later.
Then sent my current boss an e-mail saying that I have an offer, but if he'd like to keep me on, he can hire me as web editor here.
This coming week will be interesting.

Right, it looks like I'll be going up norther.
The boss e-mailed back to say he'd love to keep me on and we should discuss it tomorrow, but I wasn't expecting to get paid, was I? To which I replied that money isn't everything, but he can hardly expect me to be out-of-pocket to work for him - especially as I have another job lined up. So we shall see.

Sorry... your boss is clueless.
Well, hopefully the other offer will work out for you! If they want you there that much, which it certainly sounds like to me, surely they can wait another week or so for you to get your stuff in order.
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about giving too much notice to someone who expected you to stay on and do "charity work".

Any organisation run by the British Aristocracy and calling itself The. National. Trust. which pays themselves loads of dosh while 'employing' people at zero cost to themselves...words sometimes cannot express my doubts. *Subscription cancelled*

Let's just say if we had a meet there, we'd have to call it the "piss-up in a brewery meet".

My parents are not too far away in Portstewart, so let me know if you need anything!
