http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F30859?thread=3789046&show=20&skip=0#pi3 That first post would be so much easier to read with correct punctuation. I know some people are dyslexic, but a lot of people are lazy.

I'm sorry Roy it's not 'that' bad and being dyslexic myself I know how hard punctuation and spelling are,
Also unfortunatly a lot of people 'slip through the net' at school and are not taught the main points of correct English because they are not 'top of the class' I work in a school on and off and this STILL HAPPENS if you haven't got the gist in the alloted time the teacher has to teach it then TOUGH!
So really I think you should be more tolerant under the circumstances

I am good friends with... *counts* eight teachers, and I can assure you that a lot of the kids who 'slip through the net' (as opposed to having genuine learning difficulties) generally do so because of laziness and lack support from home.
I myself have no tolerance for lazy schoolchildren, mostly because I was one myself and hindsight is always crystal clear.

Reading the post makes me out of breath, which isn't nice. I try not to judge the person too much on the base of this, though.

I'm with Roy on this one I'm afraid. Too many people these days are just plain lazy when it comes to spelling and punctuation. My youngest sister's spelling and punctuation is awful and she admits it herself that it's her own fault. When she's writing a letter she often lapses into txtspk which is funny in a way, but not when you're applying for a job!
I actually think that texting has a lot to do with why people have become so lazy with their English. I admit to being a pedant and while I know that our lovely language is constantly evolving (a quick flick through the OED will throw up a few surprises) it really isn't much to ask from someone to stick with the basics.

My sis is terrible with texting! If she could leave out all vowels or change everything to numbers she would.

I think that text wording (or txt spk) is perfectly acceptable on a phone. It's only going to be read by the recipient. I have to say, though, that when I use the word: un42n8ly not many people get what I mean (it's unfortunately) and, because I like to text back as quickly as possible, I like to abbreviate to prevent the recipient thinking "GOD, He SOOOOO hates me!"
I do agree, most people are lazy with their spelling and grammar. Apostrophes are the most important thing in the world. They define so many things and yet it's easy enough to know when to use them. The only problem I have is when the word/name ends in S. I think nearly everyone struggles to get it right first time, every time. I also struggle with commas. Semi-colons are a nightmare for me - I just use a hyphen.
I think it's perfectly acceptable to use phrases such as "Who did you get that from?" as opposed to switching the 'from' to the start. I have to say, though, that it's mis-matched meanings which irk the most. Using words "pacific" in stead of "specific", "unindated" instead of "inundated" and - thanks to a lady on Jeremy Kyle this week - "lie-detective test". You just have to wonder, really.

Indeed, the first and third posts seem very much "out of breath". Maybe because she flies past the PC, while home-schooling her own 4 children, taking care of a home and a farm, and assisting quite a number of others with learning problems. I guess the subsequent posts, that are capitalized and punctuated don't count.
This place really is getting very weird, people getting downright irate at something as trivial as a post or two, with "less than perfectly proper" typing and grammatical skills. Guess what, not everyone has hours and hours a day to wander this place, getting their "skills" up to everyone else's standards. Nor has everyone had the opportunity to have 'further education', such as colleges and universities. At times and in ways, the real world sucks.

That's fair. To be honest I'm not sure why I posted this in the first place.

Sorry, Roy. I shouldn't have blown off at ya as I did. I've just seen so much of a friend being shredded this week because her spelling and typing aren't "up to the standard" of some. And so when another friend is taken to task, I lose my cool. My apologies ...

No need to apologise: you're right! There has been a fair bit of tetchiness 'round these parts of late (guilty as charged). Careless grammar and punctuation irritate me but there are much more important things to worry about.
