Ah yes, the natural progression!

smiley - geek

Actually, I think I'm still just a nerd. In order to be a smiley - geek I think I'd need to know why my BOINC stats aren't updating. Oh, maybe I am a smiley - geek.

After being away from home n working in craft here for 25 yrs in a country that doesn't understand or talk english ,I thought it would be nice for me to try to talk to english speaking people again here but ,I found if I make a mistake most people or threads just dry up . I found that a lot of people in here are very pleased with their english but I think they would never survive < shall we say the big one >smiley - erm

Going back to the original question, I think one of the problems is that people don't read like they used to. A lot of what people read now will be on screen, where they will absorb other peoples bad spelling without noticing it. If people are reading proper books, they pick up the natural rules of grammar without noticing, and they learn what words look like when they are spelled right. That way, even if they can't remember the spelling of a word, they can see if it looks wrong.

I learned to read before I was 2, and was reading fluently by 3. I read books like 'A Little Princess' and 'The Railway Children' before I started school, and started on Tolkien at seven and Christie at ten. I realise I was a highly precocious child, but I've always read a lot. As a result, my spelling and reading ages have always been high. If people read books more, I believe the general spelling ability would improve.

Also, I proof read posts before hitting post - for the most part, anyway.

My reading age has always been high too. I now have the reading age of an 85yr old blind man.

Crivvens! Three simulposts. You can tell I was pre-emptively excited by that because I missed out an 'r'.smiley - whistle

For the record, I own no pink socks, though I bought a pink shirt from Concept Man, Ramsgate in 1986.

BEG: I too reckon a lack of reading's a major part of the problem.

One new post. I wonder how odd that'll make this one look?
