Mornin' Smuggling While Legless, how be you?
I have some *very* admirable restraints. The leather ankle cuffs are particularly fetching.

Yep, there it is! I knew you couldn't keep it up forever, and I don't believe I'm setting you up with another opportunity...

Pah! I'm not low enough to take the bait. Not enough girth.

Ken Livingstone has criticised Jack Straw’s comments about muslim women wearing full veils. The words he’s used is that “a completely powerless woman” *has* to wear a veil. That’s the point, Ken, you stupid man. She’s not “completely powerless” in the UK, that’s what makes the UK a better place for women to live in than, say, Saudi Arabia. Women have rights here.
So, what you’re basically saying, Mr. Livingstone, is that you’re against women’s rights in the UK *if you're a muslim woman*. Is that really the message you want to put across? Or are you just being a moron? (Again)

*sidesteps the KL thing*
There's been much talk of values, and how 'British' values should include acceptance of other cultures' values. Right then, bring on the forced marriages and honour killings.

Because our opinions differ and I don't want to get into it.

The whole veil thing is political. There were very few around before 9/11. The response to the issue being raised? Calls from hardliners for more women to wear the veil. How is that going to help? They've been told very clearly that it is not considered polite and is causing disquiet so they want to exacerbate things.
Incidentally, there's a debate going on at the MPACUK forum. Muslims are criticising the women for going to a white man for help. It would appear that in the hardliners view "taking the niqab" is symbolic of retreating from society and devoting yourself to religion. Women in this position are forbidden from speaking to any man who is not a relative.

RF: 'Oh? You think muslim women should be denied the same rights as other women in the UK?'
No, but I don't think Ken Livingstone's opinion is relevant.

Well, I wish it wasn't either, but we're stuck with the pucker, and he gets his face on the telly with annoying regularity.
I'd just like to point out that when we had the referendum on whether to have a mayor, I voted No.
