I saw a meteor last night around 20:30. Looked up and saw what I first thought was a plane but then it split up into bits and broke up. First I have seen for a few years.
Only half hour before deep impact came on tv. It was like a trailer for the movie .

Oh not long 1-2 seconds.
I have been lucky enough to see 4 or 5 meteors ( fireballs ) in my lifetime. Probably due to the fact I have spent many hours outdoors at night. Due to work and hobbies.
Sunday nights was among the least spectacular I have seen.

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Sep 1, 2015
I've seen many meteors (shooting stars) but only one that could be described as a fireball. It seemed to cross the sky at a leisurely pace, although it probably only took about a second.

A few weeks ago, this GIF of a meteor exploding hit Reddit.
Very Cool!

Also today, this short video of a satellite breaking up over the Pacific. N.B. satellites are MUCH slower than meteors.

Yes I mean fireballs when I say meteors. Shooting stars I just call shooting stars. I have seen many of them over the years. Its always interesting to look up on a clear night.
