I've bought a Kindle for my Mum and it doesn't come with a charger, just a USB cable. Mum is in a nursing home and doesn't have access to a computer, so she needs a charger. I've looked at reviews for lots of them. All have had some 1* reviews complaining about reliability, safety or build quality.
Can anybody recommend a good charger for Kindle. It doesn't matter if the cable is hard-wired, or if it takes a USB cable.

You can buy an adapter that allows you to plug your USB cable straight into an electric socket. Perhaps one of those would be handiest?

I've looked at examples of both types, the ones that come with a cable hard-wired in and the ones where you use the Kindle's USB cable. As I said, all have some 1* reviews for reliability, safety and/or build quality.

Is the USB port on the Kindle the same size as a mobile phone one?
If so any mobile phone charger should work.
Otherwise Samsung supply some of their phones with the USB on a 240v plug type chargers.
So a Samsung branded one ought to be OK, rather than the cheap knockoffs.

My Blackberry charger fits my husband's kindle. So he sometimes uses it if he can't find the proper kindle one.
So, a proper Blackberry charger ought to be OK.

You can purchase a mains charger, but don't buy it from the main retailers. If you look on eBay or other Amazon.co.uk sellers, you'll be able to get one for under £5, whereas the main retailers will charge around £20....

Frankly the fact that there are so many fake chargers out there I'd make sure to buy from a reputable source.

I could use the same cable for Kindle and Phone, but I now have about half a dozen of them, and three or four of the plugs. Don't know how I accumulated them. And when I think of the old phone chargers - clumsy great things, and a different one needed for every gadget....

We have the type of adapter that KB linked too and have not had a problem with them, even the 2 we got from the £1 shop
