As I write this, a small group of 30 'fishermen' in Taiji, Japan have driven a family , or 'pod', of 250 Dolphin into The Cove. One of them is a baby albino dolphin. It has just been forcefully separated from its mother and taken away to learn tricks for stupid humans.
Given the connection between DNAs respect for dolphin and their importance to the prologue...Do you think it is right for these magnificent wild creatures to be herded into the cove and brutally slaughtered?

Here is the report and pictures from the captive selection process yesterday.
Many Dolphin were left injured and bleeding, one died and was taken straight to the butcher house.
The rest are still in the cove, their second day without food.

I'm afraid that it happens every day over a six-month long season every year.
EVERY DAY.
A family of dolphin, typically 6 to 20 adults with juveniles and babies, is frightened towards the shore by the 'banger boats' ( hunting boats with steel poles suspended in the water that the crew hammer on to confuse the dolphins communication).
When close enough to the cove, nets are drawn across the entrance to prevent escape.
Later, the 'pretty' dolphins are selected by the trainers from the local dolphin parks. They are manhandled into holding pens on the other side of the bay. Here they get their first taste of the food they will be eating for the rest of their shortened captive lives...dead fish.
Their parents and siblings, meanwhile, are being slaughtered by the killer divers. A steel spike is hammered into the blowhole to sever the spine. This does not cause immediate death to the dolphin.
The killer divers then knock a wooden plug into the blowhole so that the water doesn't turn red with blood and upset the tourists.
A siren goes off in the Fishermens Union building to inform the meat buyers that there will shortly be an auction of fresh dead dolphin.
The Taiji Whale Museum is already boasting of its new acquisition... the rare Albino Dolphin taken from its mother yesterday.

Unjustifiable, inhumaine, disgusting and... How could one so-called intelligent species do something like this, to another intelligent living species... Just disgusting...

This second day of the capture/slaughter has been going on now for 6 hours. The Dolphin are exhausted and have no food.
The Killers are also very tired and are losing their 'patience' with the Dolphin. Two Dolphin have already died, bloody and entangled in the nets, ignored by the killers who drive their boats over the captured dolphin in about 3 feet of water.
These members of our own species deserve to lose that membership.

Jan 20 (Reuters) - In an unusual move, U.S. ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy has expressed deep concern over the traditional dolphin hunt in western Japan, where local fisherman corral dolphins in a secluded bay before killing many for meat.
The annual dolphin hunt currently underway in Taiji in western Japan has long been a source of controversy and was the topic of "The Cove," an Oscar-winning documentary.
"(I am) deeply concerned by inhumanness of drive hunt dolphin killing," Kennedy tweeted at the weekend, adding that the U.S. government opposes drive hunt fishing.

After killing some 40 dolphin under the tarpaulin, the rest of the exhausted pod were driven back out to sea by the banger boats.
