Mind you, when it's really hot, I need to keep the sun off my skin & prefer loose linen trousers. That's what I'll wear to work tomorrow. We're not supposed to wear sandals with toes exposed - health & safety.
I like socks with sandals when it's over 30.

I think we should start a campaign to make the wearing of kilts obligatory for both men and women in the workplace.

Let's face it, it's no sillier than trouser suits.

It's nice to know that in times like this we can always rely on the BBC for sensible advice.

In the current BBC Magazine article "Eight low-tech ways to keep cool in a heatwave",

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-23255554

their number one tip is - wait for it - "Wear wet clothes"

"The most obvious suggestion to me is that you dampen your clothes," says Cambridge University physicist Lisa Jardine-Wright...

...When I was cycling in France it was more than 40C and I soaked my T-shirt in water before I went out. But that's a bit extreme"

Sadly no pictorial evidence is provided.

I've seen the Oregon State football team doing that before going out on a training run, soaking themselves down with water, first.

The Apache, training their young warriors, had them start their day with a grueling four mile run, over which they were supposed to carry a mouthful of water they weren't allowed to swallow or spit out until the end of the run, when they were expected to spit it out at the feet of their trainer.

I've tried it, the effect is like stepping into a cold shower.

The process leeches fatigue poisons from your system.

A mature Apache warrior could cover 70 miles on foot in their native rugged desert terrain in a single day.

I've been known to freeze my unmentionables. I also decided not to break up a water fight in work today: I let the lads soak me and then sat in front of a fan. It was nice.

clzoomer- a bit woobly

I sweat. In my (now occasional) work I can wear cargo shorts and a black tee-shirt outside and 'stage blacks' inside (AC the norm). Footwear can be black trainers with 'California socks' (no socks). I find I need two or even three black Tees for the outside work since the first one invariably ends up with white tie dye like salt patterns around my arm pits and chest. So it goes.
