The more I think about it - always a dangerous thing -
the more I wanna say it was Farscape. Or Dune. They
had a weirdness all their own - the whole idea being
that smokey-mirrored bridge between what works and
knowing how it works.

A case in point is that girl whose leukaemia has been curbed (cured?) by using, modified (of all things, apparently) HIV.
