Ooh. Sausage sandwiches. I wonder if I should start a sausage sandwich game thread.

Sausage and pickle today. In a finger roll (the last of the barbecue leftovers).

Tomorrow, we are all making ourselves cold roast chicken, lettuce and mayo sandwiches. Children? Did you hear? I want this chicken *eaten* please! smiley - rolleyes

I brought a surplus chicken leg to work today. There are lots of things apart from sandwiches that you can vary lunchboxes with. I'll start a list with some of the obvious (to me) ones.

Things you can hold in your hand
(unpack the wet wipes BEFORE you start eating - in some cases your hands will be so greasy, you'll have trouble picking up the packet, let alone opening it!)

smiley - friedeggsmiley - chickA hard-boiled egg
A mini-salami
A frankfurter (learned this one in France - you just take them out of the packet, dip them in mustard and eat them cold.)
A cornish pastie
Any small pie or tart
A fairy cake
Sticks of carrot, cucumber and celery

Smaller stuff you can string on a skewer, such as chunks of cheese or meat.

More later....

A commercial lunches trick suitable for box or bag lunches, in order to avoid soggy bread, pack the filling in the form of a tinned or other commercially packaged product, for assembly when one is ready to eat, bread on top in a sandwich bag and heavier items on the bottom.

Hmm. I don't quite understand that. Is it like an open sandwich upside down?

However, with the same sort of idea in mind - stuff in tubes is really practical. Ready-made sandwich spread, for example, comes in tins. But you still need a knife to spread it and then you're left with half the tin. Now if this was in a tube or a little sachet (properly perforated so you can aim it well), you could spread it just before eating.

I'm reminded - yet again - of Mr Bean's picnic in the park.

..lighter and more crushable things on top to avoid mashing them, same principle as soup cans under the apple under the cheese cake at the supermarket, if they all go in the same bag...
