"Long links posted in h2g2 forums get abbreviated when they appear and cannot then be copied and pasted from there to another thread or any other use." Don't you have a right click 'copy link' option? In Firefox it's 'copy link location' in Opera it's 'copy link address'.

That's interesting. I usually just 'Copy' and
all it picks up is the abbreviated text. I'll
check out those other options.

I've been advised not to trust tinyurls and the like: you can hide anything behind them, including things you wouldn't click on in a million years if you knew what they were. Witness the above Rickroll.
