Edward the Bonobo - Gone.

A suggestion.

You don't need a tweet to describe h2g2. You need a few. Different ones will hit home with different people.

I'd also like to add something in relation to Maria's post about never having heard of Douglas and yet finding and staying with the site. I have a feeling that this is important because a lot of the things that make this such a great place - that it is ( well for the most part!) open minded, imaginative, intelligent, curious and also informed about so many things - that at its best it is very sociable, that it is entertaining and plain fun a lot of the time too, well these are all things which are somehow part of Douglas and his world view but they also of course exist outside Douglas and his works and are simply attractive to a wide range of people, like Maria who value those things ( if I may be so presumptuous) amongst others no doubt, but who were never "fans."

It is worth stressing again that when the site was set up it was never the intention that it should be a fan site but clearly we had a terrific start with a simple idea - making a real version of a world renowned "fictional" Guide - that still has promotional value. And lets face it, the site has been in a bit of a corner in the BBC for a few years and could do with some promotion again. As I said in the previous post ... balance - the goal is to strike the right balance now between heritage and openness.

"Anyone can be a Field Researcher for the Hitch Hiker's Guide to Life, the Universe and Everything."

I like that too - this is an important thread.

On a positive note (I know: ) . . . I feel quite certain that nor Twitter nor Facebook nor Wikipedia could have produced the chain of events which unfolded on this thread: http://h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/brunel/F19585?thread=7323989 Montana Redhead is a regular TwitFacer and those places did not bring her aid with her very particular problem, but hootoo did. A problem is, however, that I can't imagine how to promote such an arcane advantage of hootoo.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Post links to Edited Entries, post little things like the "need help with Latin?" followed by the site URL, just post the URL on it's own!

None of those make it look like a fansite.

And will people *please* stop worrying about comparisons to Wonkipedia and Farcebook and Twitter! It'll happen. It's inevitable. And it's incorrect. How about instead of moaning that people will do it and using that as a reason for not promoting the place, promote the place and then tell people why it isn't any of those sites IF the comparison comes up.

It isn't rocket science.

A website from the 90s with its politics stuck in the 80s, a hippy attitude from the 70s, and a user base probably mostly born in the 60s.

The hippy attitude was from the 60s. Our dress sense came from the 70s.
