The 1st of December is always an exciting day for me because not only is it the day I start opening my advent calendar...BUT ALSO...it's the day I test H2G2's Nostradamus skills and ask for your predictions for the next year!
So...give us your predictions for 2012. They can be serious, or silly, about sports, politics, showbiz, the weather or anything!

The Groob's predictions:
Spain will win the Euros.
Manchester City will win the Premier League.
The UK summer will be a poor one.
Andy Murray will reach the semi finals of Wimbledon but will be trounced by a stronger player.
Fire will destroy another UK pier.
A nutcase will do something nutty at the Olympics.
Britain will finish third in the medal table at the Olympics.
The Stone Roses gigs will be a roaring success but the new material won't set the world on fire.
Spielberg will announce plans for another Tintin movie.
The pop charts will be full of rubbish that sounds like Metal Mickey has been given a recording contract.
Wayne Rooney's hair will fall out.
We'll all be alive and kicking come December the 31st, but we'll all be a year older and a year wiser!

Somebody will complain about moderation being so much worse than it was under the BBC. Coincidentally this will be someone who has recently been moderated.
When the world fails to end in 2012 someone will claim there was a miscalculation and that new information has come to light which gives a new date.
Several prominent activists will be arrested on spurious charges shortly before the Olympics.
The Occupy movement will continue to be misrepresented by the media and the very people who should be supporting them.
There will be sports.

Come next January when the top bankers' bonuses are announced..they will run into £billions in total.
Occupy will continue to be an utter irrelevence in British culture.
Public sector strikers will continue to be rubbished as politically motivated by the Unions.
Students will continue to be rubbished for any number of reasons.
Inner city youngsters will continue to be a lost generation.
(I'll enjoy using my tickets to watch some boxing and athletics at 2012.)

Hugo Chavez and/or Mahmoud Ahmedinajad will die.
Petrol will go over £1.50 a litre in the UK.
A major UK high street bank will need another bailout.
Greece will leave the Euro.
The death toll at the London Olympics will be in low double figures.
Summer will be the hottest and wettest on record.
The US will engage in direct military action against Pakistan.
The CERN will definitively confirm or deny the existence of the Higgs boson.
The error in the superluminal neutrino story will be identified.
h2g2 will close.

Putin will step back up
The mysterious accidents befalling Iranian scientists and installations connected with their nuclear programme will continue.
F35 will be scrapped in US budget cuts
There will be a diplomatic incident in the S China Sea
A planet will be found with both water and a breathable atmosphere
A Brit will win a gold medal at the Olympics
There will be a major cyber attack on a bank
Anti-virus software for phones will be the summer "must-have"
The Scottish summer will be largely warm rain. Again.

Man Utd win EPL
England knocked out in quarter finals of Euros

F35s will be bought by Canada and that will prove to be the undoing of the present government.
The proposed pipeline from the Alberta tar sands to the Pacific will garner world attention and general condemnation.
Brazil will export green technology to the US.
Cold fusion will be created but it will be too expensive to be practical.
A Canadian team will win the Stanley Cup. (that one is just wishful thinking)

Andy Murray will win some ATP Tour events, (best of 3 sets stuff)..but fail to win a Grand Slam...He'll have at least one groin, one knee, one elbow and a wrist.

Israel will go to war with Iran, dragging the rest of the Western world with it.
The euro will shrink to a core of Germany, Austria, Finland, Slovenia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and maybe France.
Something will crop up that blocks Croatia's planned accession to the EU.
Man City will win the Premiership and Fergie will have a heart attack on the sidelines.
Everton won't win anything.

There will be a major finanical crisis in Europe spilling over into the rest of the world as first Greece then Portugal implode taking the Euro with them
Kate Middleton will continue to be too thin to conceive
There will be riots in London before the Olympics but sufficiently brutal police action for them not to happen during the Olympics
The crop of a common foodstuff will fail sufficiently for it to be in short supply, either wheat or soya
Petrol will briefly be £2.00 per litre, before "settling" back to £1.75 and slowly rising again
The NHS will try to sell Barts or Tommys to Richard Branson
There will be a hurricane on the East Coast of the US which devestate most of Florida
A major African land mammal will go extinct
