Is it just me...or are a lot of anti-war songs godawful drippy? 'Ooh! War's like, not nice! Please stop it!'
There also seems to be a pervasive myth that Joan Baez and Buffy Sainte-Marie et al stopped the Vietnam War. Actually...I think it had more to do with the Viet Cong.

well, ntm, i know what you mean...
but heres the thing...
we are getting in this thread what i wanted
...a nice cross section of very many different kinds of anti-war songs
and i was there when those 60's ones were new
they were necessary ...all of them
they gave us permission to cry and to get angry
they taught us how to fight against war without being violent
they appealed to our emotions our intellects and our souls
i am finding it very interesting to hear these newer ones

Great minds think alike - more alike than you might imagine, Effers.

Is this one more to your fancy, Ed?

Oh, there's tons of *pro*-war songs. A short while ago I downloaded some Thomas Mapfumo for a Zimbabwean neighbour. He was very grateful for some music from back home, even though half of them were praise-hymns to ZANU-PF. (He has good reasons not to be a fan).
Dunno...I'd like some anti-war songs with a bit more oomph. A bit more bile. I'll give it some thought...

A reasonable amount of bile for a four-line song:

Come Away Melinda. This is the Uriah Heep version, although I prefer Tim Rose's.

Lennon was best when he was being the cynical b-----d he really was, not when he was pretending to be all nice and luvee and peacey.

God! I'd forgotten 'The The'
Roddy Frame was with him/them for a while. My wife used to hear him rehearsing in her youth club.
