why do folks have more than one h2g2 account?

Single sign on.
Lost passwords/emails.
Wanting to get an answer untinged by people's existing perceptions of the person asking it.
Wanting to post something without people who know you knowing you've posted it for personal reasons, e.g. embarrassment.
Wanting to make fun of someone by starting an account with a name parodying theirs and posting obviously parodic things in their style.
Wanting to make fun of someone by claiming they're a chatbot and you're the apologetic writer of the program.
Wanting to post an item of fiction based on real events in your life that include other people and not wanting them to be identifiable.
And finally...
Wanting to circumvent a restriction on posting the site.

I only have one account, you can blame my sock puppets (or 2legs) for the others I've no idea what they get up to , aside from being very, very naughty

I've had several accounts... Mainly just used for a short period due to bugs in the system at various times when I've found it impossible to log in using this account...
I had one pre-rupert account that I've now lost the ability to log into
I've also had a couple of 'joke' accounts, created for a specific thread or purpose - all of which I also lost control over when the new sign-in system was introduced...

Two accounts, one after the other. The second account I opened after a 6 month or so break from h2g2 because I wanted a fresh start. As redpeckham I joined not long after the very traumatic ending of a love affair. I mostly mucked about on the thingite threads..but then got caught up a bit in the 'Della wars'. That was a truly horrible experience..but probably suited my state of mind. I cannot express how horrible I found those wars..but it was my choice to get involved, I accept that.
Anyway came back and didn't want that taint on me. I was called Fanny for a while..then something else..and I made Effers from a halloween anagram that stuck, which Roymando finished off as 'Effers' That name was abruptly failed 2 or 3 months ago.
But just 2 accounts. Lots of people guessed that I was previously redpeckham..and I wouldn't deny it if asked..but I think I may have said its not something I'd like to talk about..that is because of all the bad memories for me.

They were more than a storm in a teacup. They were quite painful at times for some people. But probably best forgotten about.
I created a separate account to keep an eye on Peer Review, and promptly lost all my login details. Can't even remember the e-mail address I used.

I had some trouble logging in around the time of BBCid, so I created an alt account. I called it JUSTBOB2. I've not had an email about it, so I don't know what email address I used.
I ended up quitting h2g2 for a while, as I couldn't be bothered with the hassle, but when I came back my main account was fine.

So when we move, we will take with us all those accounts where people have lost their passwords or emails?

I hasten to add Trig, that wasn't meant to be flaming Merely a statement of fact not everyone, sadly, shares your magnaminity I do find it revealing of some of the personalities, curiously amusing from an outsiders observation, though not to everyone's taste

Online wars/flame fests can only have an effect IF you allow them to.I B off somewhere else for a while and mainly ignore all the carp that some seem to revel in.
It amazes me how much people take to heart at times. If you can't take a few knocks online how in hell can you manage in real life?

I have 4 accounts:
My original account, long-forgotten sign-in details, but usefully tells me when I first joined h2g2.
My "proper" account, which I've not used since...
I started a new account due to the BBC's carelessness with my personal data, and unwillingness to do anything about it. When we move, hopefully I'll be able to go back to my "proper" account.
I also set up a "sock puppet" account, but I've never really used it. I suppose I should check to see if it's still alive, and if I can remember the details.
