Is it me, or are references to the books/radio series/ film/... appearing more frequently lately? I see them in videogames I play, apps, ...
You too?

Yes probably a bit of both.

Becoming part of h2g2 will expand your conscious awareness
of many hootooisms already out there in the real whirled.

And the growing cyberbeast that is the legacy of the
HitchHikersGuide2theGalaxy has become a trendy way
for all sorts of other media to pay homage by including
in-joke references to a lot of minutia from everything
DNA wrote.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

I was in the pub yesterday... well no supprize there then... and my friend I was with made a fabulus h2g2 refernce...
He spotted someone in the corner of the pub he didn't want to talk to for fear of his boring us both to death... the person in question is a self-published (vanity publishing) auther... apparently he clames he's a poet... but from what I've heard there isn't a single decent poem in his entire self-published book...
So, my friend 'Quick, roudn to the other side of the bar, or we'll be bored to death by a vogon poet'... smiley - snork and we slunk off to escape the torture that was potential vogon poetry smiley - snorksmiley - book Actually, we made a hole bunch of h2g2 refernces at leach other over the course of the afternoon... well that and a few other references to various books and things smiley - huhsmiley - book

And I meant an orderly retreat.
A strategic withdrawal.
A regrouping.

But as only Vogons would do it, with
lots of paperwork and tea breaks and
definitely no Panic.

Sho - employed again!

About 15 or 16 years ago I was at a trade show in Munich (Systems I think - definitely IT related) and I was walking through one of the halls and suddenly I had to go and talk to some fellows on a tiny stand. We bantered around for ages before the chap I was with got bored and dragged me away.

"Did you know them?"

"no"

"Did you know their company?"

"no"

"so why were you chatting like old mates in the pub"

"Did you see the name of their company? Did you SEE? Vogon. It was Vogon. Of course I had to speak to them."

'nuff said.

I did. You should try, you meet a very funny (human?) who talks to you about higher beings, gives you a terraforming tool and invites you to a free breakfast and short presentation at the 3rd rock from Sol. His name is Steve.

Then there's this link swl posted in the
News thread a couple of days ago:

http://hiphopwired.com/2011/09/04/boy-dies-after-masturbating-42-times-in-one-night-30097/

I keep asking myself who was keeping count.
smiley - erm

(BTW: The original link from swl is at post 12168 of the
What News Story thread and it still works but the copy
I pasted above is a bit wonky in preview).
