Why?

Short term economical benefit. Unless the UK builds them and maintains them they will be a liability to the UK economy.
How many wind turbines do you think that the UK will export to Germany ?

Is that specific to wind turbines, or could the same not be said of just about anything that's imported?

It depends.

Well Germany have done an excellent job of capturing the market so far. With much of Yoorp (rightly or wrongly) galloping out of nuclear, they only stand to gain.

Without doubt Germany will build their own wind farms. More than likely, their 10 year program to replace their nuclear power station is based more out of necessity to keep the wheels of their manufacturing industry turning than it is on going green.

I doubt that. Germany has a thriving green electricity consumer sector. Consumers can choose the generation method for their supply. Many choose green.

And Siemens are major exporters of wind turbine blades and generators.

I don't think they decided to replace nuclear to boost the renewables (and other) sectors. a) That would be a very large economic sledgehammer to crack a smaller nut: far more cost-effective to keep their nuclear power operating; b) there is considerable consumer pressure in Germany both against nuclear and for renewables which make the latter more economically viable and c) they are quite sensibly capturing the non-domestic market.

OK - I agree that all points to c)...domestic considerations do lead to the wheels of their export industry being oiled.
