Midsomer Murders is often filmed around here. We have lots of Red Kites who make a horrible screech - could it be them?

the call i am talking about is much worse

its more like a caw of horror

like a very disappointed crow

and it is at night

its a night bird

which call is heard during
foyles war
somers murders
ballykissangel

in nite scenes

its horrible

its so horrible that my first thot
when i heard it
is that if its for real
and not a joke
that its the reason people left the uk for other parts
and the reason for all the colonization

I don't live in the UK, and don't know what horrible noise you've heard, but last night I heard a cougar screech, which set my teeth on edge and made the dogs go crazy!

I just dont know what noise you're talking about. Our nocturnal noises (I live overlooking a very compact, heavily foiliaged and very well stocked valley with everything from badgers to kingfishers and some sort of woodpecker in it as well as some tawny owls) dont really involve any horrific or nasty screeching, that tends to be a daytime bird of prey thing or foxes at night. The foxes do sound like a woman being attacked.



I really dont know.

I dont have a computer of my own atm so I cant even view a clip and have a listen!

i pooh poohed it originally because i have lived in the company of foxes and never heard that call... maybe acause theyre american??

the one on the abovementioned site is not as mature sounding as the one on
those three shows ballykissangel, somers murders and foleys war...

but it is it!
i have a feeling that the call we hear in those shows is a stock one that the filming industry has
that all three shows used...
it always sounds the same and
i can see by this one that the call varies with the fox and the circumstances...

aaanyway... thank you all for continuing to try to help me solve the mystery...


and yes it actually does sound like a woman being murdered, too, i guess

i just felt more like it sounded like a woman disCOVering a murder... a particularily horrific one if you know what i mean...

Not sure if you are still on, or if you have figured out the answer, but it is a red fox. Google red fox screams, and watch. I too have been wondering. I just started the series on Netflix.
