Should religion be fair game for ridicule and satire?

Tom Lehrer's 'Vatican Rag':

Which I include as it is a satirical classic from a master of the form, but ought not offend anyone but the William Donohues of this world.

Tim Minchin, I regard Lehrer's heir has written and performed 'Pope Song' which has just hit the intertubes and contains language that could upset those of more feeble constitutions or a hardier person employ or workmates:

Taff,

I agree completely that violence is not the answer, but there are those who wish to scare others with the use of violence. This statement is obvious. No one wants to be hurt and the "terrorist" thrive off of that.

I often wonder if there will ever be a way to disarm terrorist without causing more violence. The person or being that comes up with that solution will be great. If that ever happens, people will truely be fee to do and say what they feel without causing others to strike out at them.

The bottom line is that all people have rights to believe in what they wish and with that comes ridicule but no one has the write to hurt others to inforce their beliefs. That is just wrong.

"Vatican Rag" was excellent. I'll be looking up more Tom Lehrer.

That wasn't Tim Minchin's usual style, but it certainly made its point! Personally I prefer "Ten-Foot Cock and a Few Hundred Virgins". (This is a song about anal sex and God ....) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXfmjMlPEic
