gotta silly project to write up- 20 odd pages -n it bores me to sleepy tears!

how do i make myself do this damn thing - and the weather is so damn GOOD! I could be out kayaking - if i had enough stuff to sellotape together to make a kayak. i could be climbing trees, or hunting floating elephants, or superglueing coins to the floor in public buildings.
I could be DRUNK dammit!!!

instead I'm cryin - thinkin bout this project (-already late) that I'm not doing. It's all so silly.

how does one motivate oneself then?

(it'll be done when it's done ....)
(it really does have to be done and priorities are priorities because they have high priority)
(quit yer whingin mopey - y'know you'd spend yer time in front o the telly anyways)

DAMMIT! it's just so BORING!!

I'm not really here

Clearly no-one else can be motivated to even answer. smiley - winkeye

I find it hard to get going for things like this as well, but I just make sure that I have everything that I need, in the place that I need it, and that the place I have to work it clear of crap and rubbish.

Then I have just one more cup of coffee, before finally sitting down at the computer and checking h2g2 one more time.

Then I get on with it.

Lady Scott

Even if the best you can do is work on it in bits and pieces, it's better than continuing to procrastinate.

For instance, set a timer for a certain amount of time (15 minutes, 30 minutes, or an hour), and work on the project and only that project for that amount of time, even if you need to force yourself to do it, whether you want to or not.

When the timer dings, go play - do something you'd rather be doing, for the same amount of time. Be sure you've set the timer again, because I guarantee you that you won't want to quit when time is up.... But quit you must, and go back to the project, setting the timer again and working on it diligently for that set amount of time.

Sure, it'll take you twice as long in actual hours from when you start to finish it, but you're working for the reward of doing something you want to do just as soon as the timer goes off.

The only real trick is to force yourself to go back to the project repeatedly, until it's finished.

"20 odd pages"

Do the even ones smiley - winkeye

No, seriously, just do one page,

Then get up and move about for a bit.. make a cup of smiley - tea or something

Then do another page

As Lady Scott suggested, approach your project in stages... one bit at a time

smiley - cheers

The Groob

Start off by doing a little bit with low standards. Be sloppy at first. If the 'little bit' is too much then break it down further. If that doesn't work then break it down even further. Your perception of the task will gradually change.
