Should The Police Carry Guns

Post 1

Freespeach

At the moment except for special trained fire arms officers the police are unarmed , and even those that are trained only carry them in certain situations, or when carrying out certain duties
Should all police officers carry guns at all times?
Even if you don’t like the idea of that, and I don’t
Do you think the time will come when they do?
What are the pros, and cons

Yes and no the ARU's in the UK seem effective but I don't think beat offices should carry them in the UK. But I think CID should carry guns.

In the US, they all carry guns. The criminals all have guns, so trying to get a criminal to stop would be pointless when all the criminal would have to do to get away is shoot the cop.

A friend's son who is a part-time "security" person at his university says that the joke is that if they caught someone engaging in some dangerous criminal activity, they'd have no power to do anything at all, because they're not actual policemen, so they don't carry guns. Their motto is: Stop, or I'll call someone to help!

However, they do get a nifty uniform, which makes them a ready target for the criminals who *do* have guns.

Same in Denmark. Don't think security personnel is allowed guns. The best they can do is hit the criminal over the head with their flashlight.
