Whether you get a BSOD depends on your OS. I've never had a BSOD with 3.1.1 (didn't occur back then), 95, 98 or XP. I haven't used Vista for long enough at one sitting for such a problem to arise.
I have had BSOD at work using NT, but that's famous (or infamous) for them.

Sure it depends a bit on your OS, but having used all of those you mentioned you must be truly blessed by some ancient and mighty god from Redmond to have eluded the pernicious BSOD for so long.
