New Graphics Card?
Mrs Zen Started conversation May 22, 2009
I think I need a neew graphics card. I've just bought a brand new monitor (a 19" Samsung SynchMaster 943SN if you care about such things), but even though I've installed the drivers and adjusted the resolution, etc, black on white text is blobby nasty. I know it can do better than this.
So... do I need a new graphics card - the one in the PC seems to be a VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro. It came with the PC when I bought it 4 or so years ago.
If so - what is the most entry-level card that makes sense? I don't use the PC for games or video - I use it for browsing, MS Office apps and the occasional bit of photo editing.
Ta muchly

As you were - once I'd adjusted the thing so it's not trying to be wide-screen it was fine. Irritating to have an inch and a half of unused monitor either side of my desktop, but hugely less irritating than the blobby text.

I'd say just about any graphics card should be able to handle the full wide screen in high resolution.

Graphics cards are for 3D, any old integrated one should be fine for office.

Not all old integrated interfaces could support wide-screen mode.

The PC is good enough for government work, as a colleague used to say, now I've got it on a narrower setting, and I've been haemorrhaging money recently with no transfusions in sight, so I'll live with what I've got for a while.
Thanks all for your comments
