This is a question about h2g2, but I'm asking it here because I don't want to be pestering the Editors.

Why in the discussions of the G8 summit does the word G8 come up as a link?

Don't know. Do other things like A4 and C7, M25 etc come up as links?

How odd.

Must be a defined page, even though it comes up blank. Looks the same for several Gnumbers. Maybe it's an idea that was never used, or something.

Cnumbers are directories
Fnumbers are fora
Unumbers are userspaces
Not heard of Gnumbers before, though.

Perhaps they are Gnomon numbers!

No, it is because the DNA engine automatically turns any letter+number into a link, so that people can short link to entries, as I saw explained elsewhere!

Just guessing here, but it might be that you've stumbled across a class of pages that's only visible to editors (i.e.: Jimster, Natalie, Peta etc.)

But it only seems to do that when the lettwer+number combination a valid page reference. For example A810 becomes a hyperlink but A811 does not.

I know the A+number only becomes a link if the checksum is right. The last digit in any A number is not part of the number but is a checksum. The very first entry in h2g2 was A18, the next one was A27.
