Bowie and Dylan

Post 1

Badeye

Hi,
Does anyone know anything about Bowie covering a the Dylan song "Trying to get to Heaven before they close the door"? It was also covered by Robyn Hitchcock.
I really want to hear but don't know where to get it, or, indeed if it's worth the effort.

I can't get into Google from this computer, so I can't check for you, but Bowie did at least one album of covers. It was called 'Pin-Ups', and might be worth looking up if you're a big Bowie fan. I don't know if this song was on it, but I'm sure you could look it up if you check on Bowie's website, which I believe is at www.bowie.net

Hi BadEye
if you have no luck at bowie net it seems that it's available on napster but you have to register etc;
i searched the dylan bulletin board
http://expectingrain.com/archives2001a.shtml
and it said " David Bowie has recorded Dylan's "Tryin' to get into heaven" (Rare Hours Outtake) (Napster) "
you can't search napster without reg; and download.(don't seem to be able to anyway)if you are regis; then look for bowie and rare hours outtakesmiley - ok
ps robyn hitchcock seems to have an informative site @

Really? Oh, sweet. Sorry if I pointed you in the wrong direction, but as I said, I was winging it in absence of the means to research what I was saying.

Cheers!

Thanks for that website.
The problem with iTunes for me is I'm in Australia and they haven't been able to sort out the licensing yet, or something like that. So, no iTunes music store here yet.
I lived in London for three years recently, and was very excited when it came to the UK, but unfortunately moved back here two weeks later.
I did try it though and it was just about as simple as something like that gets in my experience.

don't worry itunes don't seem to have it either.maybe you should e-mail bowie.net and ask if there's going to be a commercial release or e-bay might have it although it's a rather grey area.
See you aroundsmiley - smiley
