... so I want some new themes and the themes digitally signed by microsoft I already have. New themes need software that you have to buy to use and I don't want to do that; so my question (when I get there) is how do I make xp themes withou buying software to do it?

WindowBlinds is pretty good, and I think it has a free version. Try it out.

I just go through and change the look myself...

It's quite gratifying when you get it right.

Of course changing icons and stuff is tricky but I dont mind the standard ones, personally...

LiteStep is extremely flexible. Get rid of the taskbar, right click for start menu, very nice if you work over many monitors. Until later...

It doesn't change icone, but the font, colours and effects can be changed here. (active and inactive window frames, top bars etc...)

That's what I do anyway, a very subtle lavender for the frames makes them much easier on the eye...

I'll have to play around and see what I can do (probably break it)
That program is pretty cool but I'll need to play around with it a bit first.

It's not too scary Though, like painting walls, a little goes a long way with the colours!

Unless you make everything *and* the font the same colour, I think you'll be ok
