What Darwin didn't know - BBC4
Effers;England. Posted Jan 28, 2009
>I doubt whether the BBC would dare do such a programme in a prime time slot.<
The biggy David Attenbrough evolution programme is on beeb1 this sunday. I've seen a few trailers. As much as Attenbrough frequently irritates me with his manner, I bet it will be a far better programme than this one.

I thought the Attenborough programme (finished ten minutes ago) was excellent. He faced up to the intelligent design issue, and stood his ground.

Leaned toward the 'keep it simple' but nice and easy viewing for a Sunday.

I second that.
I winced at the brisk pace through through geology (from Marie Curie to Billions of years) with nery a mention of Lord Kelvin or Hutton's Unconformity.
My favourite shot was the tower of sandstone layers. Excellent cinematography!

Unlike Dawkins Attenbrough understands his audience and the medium of tv and knows how to keep things simple and appealing to a mass audience. And there was no hint of anyone being humiliated like Dawkin's attempts. It was all Darwin the great British hero stuff to appeal to the emotions, and hard scientific evidence for the head.
good job BBC

The BBC4 programme was - I felt wonderful - I'm not sure where the complaints about the camera works and graphics are coming from, it approached the subject without being patronising, something the BBC1 programme struggled to do. I s'pose for understandable reasons... And it did have annoying flashy graphics!
