Nice to see the Beeb apologising for a mistake, or were they made too?

Um... yes he is. He quit, they didn't fire him. Regardless of the timing of his statement, he still signed up to play the leading character in a TV series and then quit after a single season. The key word with TV series is "ongoing" - if you're not gonna commit, let them hire an actor who will. Especially as the Doctor has limited number of "lives".

In one interview at the weekend he's supposed to have said he didn't realise how much playing the Dr could affect his life.
He reckons he's a very private person and doesn't want the obsessive attention the role brings.
Shouldn't he have known what a big deal the part is and that he would be seriously in the spotlight.

When WAS the last series of Doctor Who? I think the gap may be quite large. As far as I understood it, Christopher Eccleston asked for the role as he wanted to work with RTD. If he's not into sci-fi (and not everyone is) there's no reason to suppose he'd know it would be a huge phenomenon.

Of course, whether I'm right or not, I'll defend him to the hilt smiley - drool

Deb smiley - cheerup

You don't have to be into sci~fi to know how big Dr Who is in the Uk
Sure he has a right to quit but if you're going to be an actor/star don't you have to put up with all the fuss.
If you want privacy don't take a job in the public eye
