Ever heard about a jazz-rock-group called Circus?
Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~ Started conversation Jun 21, 2000
Way back when I was young in the late 60's I heard a record made by a rock-jazz-group called Circus. It included (among other tunes) a cover-version of Lennon & McCartneys "Norwegian Wood". I have never heard about the group or the record since - neither has anyone else I Have asked.
Have you?

Hello Matey! You're not gonna' believe this...but when I was just a tender young thing I had the biggest crush on the lead singer of Circus!!!!! The only other person who has ever spoken to me about the band died last year! We didn't know eachother at the time, but we both went to the same dance club for youths...
Cirus Erie was the name of the place & Circus played there every
(either) Friday or Saturday! The club was for 13-to 18 year olds.
Circus made their 'real' money playing in bars & on tour as a warm up band for groups like Pink Floyd & the like! Never thouht I'd find anyone else who'd ever heard of them!!! It must have been 1967-1971 that I was able to follow them then I heard that one of the fellows overdosed & died & that was the end of the band...although, one of the fellows I was in a band with in the '70's still plays in a bar band in the nearest BIG city: Cleveland.
I've been wanting a reason to look this fellow up. Now I have one!
If anyone knows the REAL story behind Circus it would be my former bandmate Dave.
Talk about a blast from the past! I even went to a local 'head shop' (where you buy pipes, rolling parers, etc.) that carries obsolete music. I've been trying to find the music of (excuse my spelling, as it has been 25 years) Neils Loufgrin...'Cry Tough' is the song I request from time to time via radio. They don't like to play it though because it's not on CD & a bit of trouble to play... lazy D.J.'s! Last time I requested it I said, "This is Amazing Grace from outter space & I NEED to hear Cry Tough!" They aired what I said. Later that day & for the next couple weeks people were stopping by the cabin to tell me they heard ME!!! on the radio
seems my voice is somehow different...I'm told I sound sexy. (I have earned $$$ doing voice overs for films, for factories & health fairs & the like to go along with training slides, etc.)
I shall try to find info. on Circus...are you wanting their music? The last time I heard them was on 8 track! It was white, if memory serves me. WOW...never thought I'd know anyone that listened to Circus!

Nils Lofgren, I think is the spelling...what about the band Grin?

Pandora Posted Aug 24, 2000
OX, thank you for the spelling. I don't remember a band named Grin...but I use to take alot of LSD there are entire concerts I don't remember...I was a young hippie-with older friends. I'll write it down & when I go to the head shop again I shall ask about them.
If I find my old bandmate 'll ask him as well! And are you looking for their music? Or just wondering what became of them? ~Pan~

I know you have heard this before, but I just HAVE to say that "If you remember the sixties you weren't really there!".
What a coincidence that you, of all people, should know Circus. I mean: I posted this answer in june, got to know you two months later and then... Amazing!
Yes, I really want to listen to that record again. Here comes another coincidence: The only guy I knew had the record - is dead! And I have absolutely no idea who inherited his record.
Maybe someday you could format the record into MP3's and mail them to me. That would be great. But don't stress youself. I have been waiting for 30 years - I think I can wait a couple more.

Hello, all! Actually, I remember the sixties well and I _was_ there *in more than one dimension*
Anyway, for Nils fans: http://www.nilslofgren.com/
And the name Circus keeps ringing a bell in my head...

I just found out there is "another" band called "Circus" - and now I am afraid that Pandora may have known the "wrong" band... Please, do not let this be true!
Pandora, dear, did "your" band play anything like I described in my first post on this subject?

Be-Bop-do-rock-rock-de-daaa! YEAH!
It wasn't "rock" I know jazz, as that's what I play on the sax...but it wasn't rock...that's what I play on the guitar. They had their own style! ER, the day I'm able to do whatever to turn them into the thingy you want...you'll be too old to hear the music However,
very next trip to the shop...I shall look & look & pester one clerk after another!!! Should I find Circus, I'll buy it & E you...we can go from there! (I knew there was another Circus...but they were a rock & roll ONLY band!) HA! I remember the 60's more than I SHOULD!!! My friend Rick takes me to these shops...how he finds them I have no idea! When next he visits I shall bat my big brown eyes & he will think it was his idea to go! (it's a rather long way)
And OX!!! Thank you again!!! Do you want me to look for Grin? I
will anyway, but do you WANT some Grin? ~Pan off to the www.

OX, the site you sent me to is wonderful!!!!!! I still am unable to find the record or the song Cry Tough...I'm hoping it will be on one of his older history type CDs there's just so much to view there! You've really made my day! Wish I could make it up to you!
Peirce, I don't believe in coincidence. I think it's just 'each thing in it's own time'! And, it was time for you & I to know eachother! I
bet, if you really try, you may find your friend's record collection! It's just a matter of how much you want something! Happy hunting! ~Pan

Great! Seems like you are actually talking about the *right* Circus!
On the subject of coincidence: You may be right. But then again: That might just be a - coincidence... hehe
The sixties? Well, all I remember now is that I have a great memory.
A lot of things from back then I could do without remembering. Mainly the deaths of friends and some stupid things I did. But hey - it's a little late for regrets. Besides: You only regret the things you never tried, right?
And most of the time we had a great time. Really!

Try this to at least get a listing of Cry Tough.

I worked in bands for more years than I should have (blues, jazz, rock etc.). Keyboards and vocals, also guitar (acoustic preferred). Partied too much most of the time and lived in the Twilight Zone for a while.
I'll see if I can find Grin on Napster before they take it away from us! I'm currently listening to a varied international blend of music and gleaning classic Miles Davis, Chick Corea and other jazz from Napster.

Hi ox!
You probably heard this "start of the most improbable story ever told", but I'll give it a try anyway: "Two jazz-musicians walked past a pub..."

Pandora Posted Aug 25, 2000
Hi Peirce, it was nice waking up to you today Hope they'er able to teach you something!!! Have a safe trip. Er, with regard to safety...best to leave the puns at home---never can tell ...
OX, thank you again!!! I really had no idea there was so much music to be had via the 'puter!!!! Sounds as though you & I have
a mirrored past. (insert melting faces here).
With regard to the joke Peirce wants to tell-PLEASE don't encourage the man!
I did alot of vocals too & toward the end played keyboard ...it was rough for me, since I'd only played classical on the piano. Each insrtument I own I use for a different style.
Take care fellow music lovers!!! ~Pan
