"In addition to becoming the youngest recipient of the highest royal honour, MacArthur will be awarded the honorary naval rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy Reserve." - she's is being made a Dame as well.
Not sure which way round the titles are supposed to go but, snide remarks about whinging aside, well done, congrats and all that.
Not sure that it necessarily warrents a Dame and a Lt Cmdr though. But you can't fault her for dedication and effort.

I thought it sounded right. And, as I couldn't find any other Lt. Cmdr Dames on google I went with what sounded right. I wonder if there are any other current Lt. Cmdr Dame's out there?

It is
Military rank | title | name | random 3 letter acromyms
eg
Commander HRH the duke of york
Admiral of the fleet Sir P Abbott
Yes they are all men, but i couldn't find any female examples from the top management of the sea cadet corps
was looking at my task book from my last cadet course

note to comment above:
There are women in the top management of the Sea Cadet Corps, Just not with both a Military title and an honoury one.

Aa Ellen MacArthur already has the MBE she will probably be Lt Cmdr Dame Ellen MacArthur, KBE
BTW: KBE is a srt of initials, not an acronym. An acronym is a set of initials that make a word. I challenge you to make a word out of KBE.

So i used the wrong word, writing that posting was a little rushed.
For making it into a word, am I allowed to invent a new one?

Mu Beta Posted Feb 8, 2005
Surely 'KBE' stands for Knight of the British Empire?
Ellen MacArthur would become a DBE.

Of course it would be DBE.
Dame Commander of the most Excellant Order of the British Empire.

No doubt she'll be getting an honorary degree from some university or another, so she'll have a BSc to go with her BSC (Bronze Swimming Certificate).
Don't get me wrong, I applaud her for her achievement, but isn't all this a bit overkill?
Lt Cmdr Dame Ellen MacArthur
Mu Beta Posted Feb 8, 2005
Well, in fairness, I don't think she'll actually use the titles.
I'm not the most qualified of people, but I could still (if I wished) describe myself as:
Master B BEng, GTC, CMat, 3Mas (and any necessary swimming certificates)

IctoanAWEWawi Posted Feb 9, 2005
er, surely since she has an MBE it will be Lt. Cmdr Dame Ellen MacArthur MBE?
(just had a search, hadn;t picked up that Tanni Gray Thompson is a Dame and so is Kelly Holmes I think).

If you really want to be pedantic (and why not ) her full title should be
Lt Cdr Dame Ellen MacArthur MBE RNR
Lt Cmdr Dame Ellen MacArthur
I am Donald Sutherland Posted Feb 9, 2005
Since Dame of the Order of the British Empire outranks a mere Member of the Order of the British Empire, the initials DBE take precedence and the MBE is dropped.
Tanni Gray Thompson and Kelly Holmes could also put DBE after their names but probably don't.

Ah, I didn't realise a Dame was a Dame of the BE. I thought it was just a Dame. After all, there's nothing.....sorry.
Still, learn something everyday!

Some days I wonder, it must be said.
So, having met me twice, what would you say Master B?

I have been following EM's journey since setting out and am very pleased for her, however isn't there a General Election coming up? Wouldn't someone to get Brownie points for being a good boy.... or am I being cynical?
