Oak apple day questions.

Apparently today is oak apple day, to remeber the day that King Chales 2 hid in an oak tree after the Battle of Worcester. This begs a number of questions:
1. How did he manage to climb it in that get-up - thigh high boots, sword and so on.
2. How effective a hiding place was it? Oak trees aren't that closely foliaged, and with his long curly wig and big hat surely someone would have spotted him!
3. Why haven't Hallmark cottoned on to this as another card-giving day?

That's funny, Beatrice. I don't know the whole story (I have read a bit about it), but I always thought he hid in a hollow oak. I never imagined he climbed it.
Wasn't it a whinnying horse that gave him away?
