Punctuation of thread titles

Post 1

I'm not really here

Should there be any?

They look really odd with full stops on them, and hardly anyone does it but it seems ok to put in a ? or two. I've just put in a couple of full stops on a couple of thread titles to see how it looks.

Actually, that's a lie. It was habit and I didn't notice I'd done it until I saw them on my PS.

Should all the words have a capital letter, like a header, or just the first word?

I Tend To Capitalise Thread Titles

But I Don't Put Full Stops At The End Of Them

And, having learned the hard way, I proof-read the title many, many times before starting a new thread! As it's completely and utterly uneditable. Your poor English will follow you around like a bad smell. People will point at you, and laugh behind your back.

Damn this lack of an edit button. Of course there should have been a cock up there.

No, I didn't answer your question.

I think fullstops look odd at the end of forum titles; question marks should be used where appropriate. Capitalisation is dependent on the thread title. This thread has, I think, the appropriate approach for its title.

'Of course there should have been a cock up there.'

I am currently showing hitherto unknown levels of self restraint. :P

B'Elana, most sites that are BBC enabled will accept :P without the hyphen. Its only this anachronistic pain in the rump site that chooses to act like a petulant teenager and be 'different'.

Book titles rarely have punctuation. Chapter titles rarely have punctuation. Academic papers are more about type face.

Interesting though. Question marks seem OK. Exclamation marks less so. Full stops, commas, semi-colons etc are right out. No end punctuation seems to be the rule, but occasional in line seems OK.

you need only punctuate it in such a way as your meaning is communicated and in a fashion consistent with the owners' rules.

people making up their private rules for others isn't community self organisation, tho it often pretends to be such. it is the punishers and straighteners at work again, trying to dominate others, albeit it in trivial way.

so relax.
