Sho - employed again!

But don't we mean the vet's practice? I say I'm going to the doctor's. (It could be that I say I'm going to the doctors - i don't punctuate or whatever when I speak) but what I mean is that I'm going to where he works.

Like if I visit a friend, "I'm going to Dave's [place]"

So do you "nip out to the car's" [location]?

Not that logic and consistency do (or even should) apply in language - it's all just a set of conventions, after all.

Well, they do get out of hand sometimes, but is that the Convent's fault or the ions'?

I think the difference is that the car doesn't own the road (no matter what us owners think!) while the doctors or vets generally do own their surgery (or at least rent it). No-one else starts work in an office if the goes out, as often happens when you just nip out for something and when you get back the old bat across the road has got someone to park opposite, just to annoy you. smiley - cross

Don't apologise to *me*, linguistic questions are my very, very favourites. (Looks anxiously round, hoping for more) I just worry about the poor smiley - dog while you're haggling over semantics - or is it morphology? (screams for help) smiley - rofl

The dogs are ok, thank you for asking!

The lastest trips were for Beauty and Fred to get some flea and worm treatment (I found a tapeworm in a pup I was fosering smiley - yuk), Fred's vaccinations and booked Beauty in for some teeth cleaning so she can have smashing gnashers. smiley - biggrin
