Changing which prog opens a file

Post 1

I'm not really here

Since I've had vista PDF files open in a browser window, which is REALLY ANNOYING as they are hang the browser for ages, then are very slow to respond to even a simple scroll. Now something has happened, and they hang for ages, then launch 1000 little windows saying Acrobat could not be launched (put him in a cannon I say!).

How can I make PDF files launch in the proper PDF prog? I've tried doing it from a link, but it's not working.

In the file explorer, right click the file, choose "Open with", choose the right program in the list, and check the box for "always use this program".

Actual wording may differ, I can't double check as my laptop here at home insists on speaking swedish...

Best of luck

Try this program

http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

It's small, very quick and should set itself as the default program when you install it.

Argh, scary advert things on that one!

I just tried Milla's suggestion again, and it worked this time. I downloaded and installed the next version of acrobat thingy, so maybe there was a problem with the previous installation for some reason.

I have yet to test it on a link inside my browser though.

It still opens in the browser though, if I click a link, although it's much quicker.

I'd still like that to stop though, I want it in it's own programme, any clues on that one?

Glad it worked. We have some problems with pdfs at work... most of us have the full Acrobat (which makes Pdf files) but if you also have acrobat reader they somehow conflict, and clicking pdf links in browser fails. Sometimes it hangs the whole browser, sometimes acrobat opens separately and the pdf in a new browser window, sometimes the link opens in acrobat. Messy. Stay lucky now!
