Whilst nearly all of the links and tunes mentioned here fall into the category of "classic rock" can I mention a couple of more recent ones that have caught my ear?

Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes
Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis

(Oh, go find your own youtube links! smiley - winkeye It's not like you don't know the tunes already!)

No blueeyedmarkyboy, no! Maybe Bullet the Blue Sky though, out of any U2 songs.

Dunno about the greatest, but here's a few good 'uns.

Hallowed be thy name (Iron Maiden) (Phantom of the Opera? Pah!) smiley - winkeye

Unbelievable (EMF)

Pretend we're dead (L7)

Too much too young (Little Angels)

The Boys are back in Town (Thin Lizzy)

Mutilation is the most sincere form of flattery (Marilyn Manson)

I like drum sticks clattered together. Ant Music. Jack Action. Siouxsie & the Banshees Israel hot on the heels of some Stravinsky at the start of Nocturne.

Then I thought the Ding-ding-ding-diddling-ding of Queen/Bowie under pressure might tickle my fancy but on relistening it didn't.

Ultimately, it's hard to see past a whole glut of ACDC, but New Order's Blue Monday and Simple Minds' Waterfront must be in with a shout.

Another vote for both Tool songs.

'Black Sabbath' by Black Sabbath. The original tolling bell intro, with added thunderstorm.

For drums - Kings of the Wild Frontier.

For drums *and* thunderstorm - Raining Blood, Slayer.

I really like the first 30 seconds or so of Gimme Shelter by the Rolling Stones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJMnES7WoT4

Also, Lucky Man by The Verve has a good intro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyTO0jW8T2o

Dea.. - call me Mrs B!

Zipping waaaay off the rock tunes, I love the little twirly bit at the beginning of Madonna's 'Papa Don't Preach' for some reason. Heard it today on the radio for the first time in ages and though I hate the song, that first 10 seconds is great!

We've got the builders in, so I don't have access to my music right now, and with *my* memory...

Anyway, just to get something down, here's a tune I do remember:
