Why is that men can't multitask?

"How do you define 'good at shopping'?
Speed of process, obtaining value for money, most appropriate article?"
Yes.

Because they have women to do it for them!
Shopping's not multitasking, I'm female and rubbish at it.
Supermarkets: - why 27,000 million different types of baked beans? - freaks me out, can't make decision so don't buy any!
Clothes: - don't mind charity shops, but wouldn't spend £100 on an outfit or £50 on pair of shoes (take a 0 off, more like it - think I've got stuck into mode when couldn't afford it, now more matter of principle)
O my God, I've turned into my mother . . . she was making do and mending even when dad was moderately successful financially - or maybe just mean!

I don't really enjoy shopping per se, as in I won't actually go out just to look in lots of shops, but if I am shopping I like to look around. If I go for one specific article, and can't find it anywhere, I get very annoyed and give up.
Men tend very much to know what they want when they shop, and focus exclusively on getting it and getting out of the shop as soon as possible. Or at least, my boyfriend does. His record in doing a full week's shop was 16 minutes - and that includes the time to get through the checkout!

I can relate to that - I do all the food shopping and I'm pretty quick.
I also buy virtually all my clothes for the year in two trips - summer and winter sales. Perhaps total eight hours clothes shopping a year?
The only problem I have is remembering to buy beyond the basic staples so that I can vary meals, otherwise I would just cook the same ten things forever.
Also, I find I have to forget one thing per trip. Some sort of weird subconscious gap?

"The only problem I have is remembering to buy beyond the basic staples so that I can vary meals, otherwise I would just cook the same ten things forever." Yup, my boyfriend does that, too . He rarely clothes or shoe shops - basically, just replacing things that have worn out - two trips a year would seem far too much to him
I think it's a law of the universe that we all forget something per shopping trip, and the more you need the item, the more likely you are to forget it!

That should be a new murphy's law...cause its true!
(ex: today i have a little birthday party, so i needed cola...after dad and me got home we had practically everything but...)
And, i can relate to your boyfriend and the commando style shopping; I also do it...and i can get so irritated when others want to see every shop in the street, and go back to compare, and compare again...and be surprised that i want to go home...

I've recently gone out on a few massive shopping expeditions with my Heart's Desire - for clothes and shoes. And man! It was sooooo easy to find stuff for him! I can almost never find clothes I like (so I end up making most of them). But we got t-shirts, shirts, sweaters, cardies, shoes, socks, undies - mostly all in one shop! Amazing.
They also cost a fraction of the price that women's clothes do.
(well, except for the shoes)

Ever been to Primark? Fantastic shop, supplied about a third of my wardrobe in one £30 trip.
