A Conversation for Ask h2g2
What's the stupidest thread on Ask at the moment?

I'd like to nominate the Greenpeace thread: F19585?thread=5140180
Although SWL has now gone and posted something approaching sensible debate (but nevertheless wrong ) so maybe I'll have to change my vote.
(there have been a number of good attempts at debate in that thread by a number of people, but it just couldn't quite get there, for reasons obvious to anyone taking part ).
Any other nominations?

The one about farting in the forest sounds stupid.

I'll go with your one, Kea.
Some people seem to derive pleasure from spiking sensible conversations. Maybe if we ignore them they'll eventually get bored and go and annoy someone else.

Yeah, I can't tell if my tolerance is low at the moment, or if the quality of the Serious convos has dipped

I'll go with your one too, kea. After skimming the first page I decided not to subscribe to that one.
Other than that, most threads about God seem rather pointless, though not necessarily stupid.

Stupidest?Well all of them seem to fit that description at some point.
How about the most tedious thread?Or even most pointless?
Or the most obvious thread?
Maybe we should do an Awards thread where we nominate in different categories the conversations on h2g2 that fit those categories the best?

one mans stupidist thread is anothers... Most of the 'God/religion' threads are pretty stupid, they've all been asked before and all end up the same good fun soemtimes though

There's no such thing as a stupid question. Just stupid answers.
Threads tend to go with the flow and sometimes go in completely unexpected directions. Quickest way to get a thread back on track is to ignore the 60+ intervening posts and respond to the Opening Post. You're guaranteed a reply from the original poster at least and probably quite a few that were lurking or lured in by the thread title.

The 'Scottish Land Crab' thread is kinda still active, and I'd nominate that, but it's more silly than stupid really.

I'm still chortling at the absurd assertion on the Music thread that we only need one band per genre. And whilst it is a pleasant enough way to pass an idle 5 minutes, deciding which of Kate Nash/ Lily Allen/ Regina Spektor is "it", consigning the superfluous rest of the glottal-stopping stream-of-consciousness Estuary parlando sorority back to the dole queue and denying the chancellor more copyright revenue for his coffers, it does deprive the record buying public of an element of variety.

I'd like to be deprived of Kate Nash. You haven't been annoyed unless you've had an office full of Germans/Koreans shouting "go on, Sho, say 'fitter' again" and then when I do.
Stupidest thread... there are too many

You could always hold a peaceful demonstration if you think a thread is too stupid ...
