I've been pondering this for quite a while now. Several people haVE TOLD ME RUBBISH THINGS LIKE Its a monty python film , but i don't care. If anybody has any more enlightenment than me , please share it.

I really don't know. I'm concerned that my own life is in danger of falling into the 'pointless and purposeless' category.

I've just found this thread from last week, also asking about the meaning of life: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F19585?thread=491702&latest=1 It looks as though they didn't come to any meaningful conclusions either.

NO fear, just make the purpose to be pointless, and then there is some logic to it well it seem s to work for me

If we limit this to what we know about, i.e. life on earth, and assume we are talking about "life" as a whole as opposed to any specific individual organism, then IMHO the *purpose* of life on earth is to condition the environment to be conducive for more life to exist. For example, life tempers the climate, ensures that there's enough oxygen (but not too much), provides food for other life, takes up excess CO2 from the atmosphere thereby keeping temperatures lie in liquid-water range etc. etc. Basically, the meaning of life is to ensure the survival of life.

The purpose of an individual human life is to f**k it all up again.

Pointless and purposeless is good. The world would be a better place if everyone were resigned to how pointless and purposeless it is. Religious groups and cults have caused countless conflicts.

The meaning of life could be to multiply and evolve.

Most life on Earth spends much if not most of its life in the pursuit of food to sustane itself. Adult life adds reproduction as a secondary consideration after food.
When conditions exist for life to evolve to the point where finding food is not the primary necessity and societal structure can protect the off-spring this allows the adults to have time for other considerations, like, creative thought. Learning about the world around itself. Self awareness. Art, Language, Writing, Maths, Science.

If theres enough free time more fanciful subjects can be considered;
Such as Philosophy, Religion, Astrology.
