How male or female is your brain?
Beatrice Posted Oct 4, 2004
EQ 27
Lower than average - not a big surprise since I'm aware that it's an area I need to work on. I had a lot of "slightly"s in my answers though.
SQ 49
Above average, and indiciative of an analytical mind. Well whaddya know!
Most psychological tests I've ever taken have told me I'm a man really.

Eq 33
SQ 37
which puts me right on the boundary of Balanced and Systemised.
Me, balanced. ha!
However, yet again we have a very very simplified questionaire. The scope for different people to assign different meanings to 'Strongly' and 'Slightly' when there is no middle ground is, I would hjave thought, a destabilising effect on the results.
But there ya go.

D'you notice how all the people with strong systematised scores are querying the methodology? Can't help analysing, can we?

Type S for me too...
Mind you not too worried, I consider myself to be fairly normal and have been known to be feminine at times...
Might explain my very male orientated job though
Don't worry about it Kat, Ictoan is right, this test is not really as accurate as it could be...

I got 27 for EQ and 17 for SQ which going by their little graph gives me a balanced (if somewhat crappy) brain.
I don't think I've got AS - my score wasn't much higher than where they suggested that started - but they say that ADHD is on the autistic spectrum and that doesn't sound so unlikely in my fmaily.

I got 42 EQ - average - and 55 SQ. Puts me in the extreme systematic brain category. Took another test somewhere that also told me I had a 'male' brain. The questions themselves on the SQ test were flawed. They don't account for circumstance or profession. I'm paid to know things about computers, databases, telephone systems. And my brother is a lawyer and would kill me if I didn't know by now to read legal documents carefully. I have an English degree (thought about one in general linguistics for a while). So for me, questions about precision grammar and language structures are going to yield potentially atypical results.

46 EQ
45 SQ
Balanced then.
Hmm.
I don't think taking the scores on their own means much though. When you divide one by the other you should (hypothetically) eliminate some bias from when some people might just automatically click "strongly" or "weakly" more often than others whatever the question.
There are obviously some problems:
All the questions are self-analysis and very leading. If someone goes in thinking they're bad at communicating then guess what result they get.
The SQ questions ask about what you're interested in rather than what you're good at.
The SQ questions are based on the idea that focusing on the detail of a system is the best way to understand it. I would suggest that this often leads you to miss the forest for the trees, as it were.
I have an instinctive feeling that EQ covers things which cannot necessarily be linked. Personally I would consider myself good at reading people and social situations, but often bad at communicating back or fitting into the situation. Maybe it is a result of personal experience or a confidence thing, but at the moment it is striking me that these may be dealt with separately (well, less connectedilly) in the mind.
Also, is this study telling us anything that hasn't been said a million times before? i.e. Men are on average good at logic based subjects and like playing with gadgets. Women are on average better at communication based subjects and like nattering about soaps. I'm sure we have a whole collection of jokes about that somewhere on this site already.

Actually EQ 46 and SQ 45 seems to put you in Type S (or at least borderline).

EQ 28
SQ 25
According to the graph I have a Type S or 'male' brain.
I don't think this quiz is going to have any life changing effects on me.

Post 32 wins the award for most ironic.
EQ - 38
SQ - 55
That puts me in the extreme systematic category, unsurprisingly, since my job is to design, implement, tune, and troubleshoot systems.
There was a lot of room for interpretation on the questions, though. One that struck me in particular asked if I was interested in learning how wireless technologies work. My instinctive answer was "not really," but that's because I already know how they work. I found myself trying to reason out what the test was looking for. Eventually I decided that I must have come by at least some of my knowledge on the subject due to interest (required coursework supplying the backbone) and answered accordingly. I thought they might be more interested in what I have historically been interested in even if that interest has been filled... something like a person asking "What food do you like?" after you've just eaten your fill.
Does that count as trying to empathize with the testers, or trying to uncover the underlying system of analysis they're using?

EQ = 5
SQ = 51
Which apparently makes me Rainman. Ho hum. Ready-made excuse next time I inadvertently make someone cry, I suppose.

EQ = 30
SQ = 19
This apparently gives me a balanced brain . I know someone else has already noted this, but it does seem very odd to have scored so low in both but still have a balanced brain.

My friend took it after I forced her and she came out with 8 and 8....which only puts her in the normal male side! But such low scores! Its...unbelievable! I declare freedom from bizarre tests! Except the ones that tell you what sort of vegetable you are etc

I have an EQ of 10. which comes as no surprise really. I think Im one of the most blunt and brutally honest people I know. Sod white lies and all the miscommunication that makes up human conversation. Why can't people just tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
My SQ is 36, so apparently I'm autistic. which is news to me...
