I miss one episode and the main character for the past 8 years disappears! Can anyone who saw the one where she left tell me what is going on?

She resigned last week in order to go back to Ireland and spend more time with her son who is in prison.

I suppose I'll have to wait until it is repeated endlessly on UK Gold to get all the information 
So she is gone for good? Will it be like Taggart where the series stumbles on?

Yeah I think it will stumble on for a bit yet.
She had a son that she had given up for adoption who had become a bit of a waster and the end of her last episode there was a scene with her dropping her son off at the open prison having just got him out for the weekend.
