On My Space I complain about the lack of pockets in women's clothing. This lack became particularly annoying recently. I bought 2 skirts, neither of which has pockets.smiley - cross OK, when I go out I can carry a handbag or wear my MPV (multi-pocket vest). But what do I do when indoors? I have a mobile phone that I like to have with me and, being a hay fever sufferer, I like to have at least 1 hanky with me at all times. I know you can get cases that allow you to attach a phone to your waistband, but I often wear things that don't have a waistband and it doesn't solve the hanky problem anyway.

Any ideas, anybody?smiley - erm

I like to have a hanky about my person too. If I've no pockets but have sleeves, I tuck it up the cuff. In this hot weather I tuck it in my bra (on the smaller side!)smiley - blush. It can pop out via the neckline though smiley - doh

I thought this was going to be a question like 'which hand do you use?'. In which case I would tell the tale of how as a teenager I always carried my heavy school bag in my right hand, which is thought to be the cause of a slight scoliosis that I have smiley - cross

Ami of zx - no badgers here!

Do you get a lot of visitors or have some other reason for needing to look nice at home?

If not, I suggest a mens bathrobe, made of cotton or sateen or something thin that won't be too hot. They usually (at least, here in Australia) have large pockets on either side at about hip level. Perfect for the hanky, phone, chocolate that a person likes to have around the house.

If you need to look presentable at home, I don't know, maybe carry things clipped to the top of your shirt (but this can stretch the collar though)?

I shove them all in my bra. I hope keeping my mobile in there doesn't mean I'm going to get breast cancer.

When out somewhere where it might get rough (open air concert, shopping at the sales) I like to keep my hands free and avoid handbags. Then I make sure I have 5-pocket jeans on with the absolute miniumum (keys, mobile, lipstick, hanky, some loose money).

Like you, I really am lost without pockets. They leave them out so that the fall of the cloth isn't spoiled by odd shapes at your hips or on your chest. However, I am so shapeless, that doesn't matter.

Oh - and now I've got myself an mp3 player. Must buy a bigger size bra!

"Upon this Dias of sleep we seek.
We give the wind a name,
Forever let the rain fall
Forever end our pain.
Raga my son, go with thy father to the blessed realm on high
And carry with you a great gift
A Fairy mother's sigh..

My pockets are my keep.
A smile, a nod, a hand-
Take my heart into the deep."

Very helpful, Spinks.smiley - erm

Shoving hankies into my bra is one option, but my bra isn't always 'get-at-able' - I'm currently wearing an oversized T-shirt, and it's not easy to get at my bra at the moment. It also doesn't take care of my phone. I could end up with loads of wrong numbers if I shoved that into my bra without locking the keypad!smiley - tongueout

A robe of some kind is one idea, but a lot of the ones you find in the UK are too heavy for summer wear. If it's cold enough for them I wear jog pants, which always have pockets.

Any more ideas?

You're virtually back with carrying a handbag with those things. I've got one that I bought years ago. It's OK, but I wouldn't want to wear one indoors. Thanks for the idea, though.

Any more ideas?

A mobile phone in each room?

Tucked in/clipped to waistband of lower garment?

Two problems with that idea, Teaswill. One is that my phone has a nice fascia that I don't want covered with the kind of case / holder that you clip to a belt or waistband. The other is that I don't always wear things with a belt or waistband. My oversized T-shirts are a good example.

Any more ideas?

This is going back to the robe idea... How much do these robes cost in UK? If they're cheap, you could probably cut the sleeves off to make it less heavy. Could you wear your MPV inside?

My MPV isn't the kind of thing I'd like to wear indoors, certainly not against the skin or under something. A light-weight cotton or cotton-mix robe is probably the best idea - if I can get one.

In Germany, old ladies wear sleeveless overalls over their clothes. In floral prints. These are considered very old-fashioned, but really are very practical. But they only have a dainty patach pocket on them, as far as I know. More practical would be a carpenter's apron, with lots of front pockets.

As I am not very sure where my waistline is I prefer to carry the stuff in a little bag I can wear aroung my neck like a necklace or something or in the other one that is on my wrist like a clock.

A policeman's holster, round the shoulder and under your arms?

In a pot on your head, like a Nigerian woman?

Sorry - I'm not really making fun ... I have the same problem myself,

In this weather I'd rather walk around with nothing on, it is so unbearably hot. Even less do I feel like carrying anything. And now I've got a load of ironing to do. As if it wasn't hot enough.

What about a heavy duty elastic band around your wrist or your upper arm... tuck the phone and the hanky in there, then off you go smiley - winkeye

Obviously the band shouldn't be tight enough to cut off the circulation to the hands smiley - winkeye

Or you could stop being a slave to your mobile! I leave mine in a place where I am likely to hear it, but at the same time I don't get distressed if I don't make it to answer it! Anyone who needs me urgently would try the house phone first and I have a belt clip for that to take it around with me! Its not really a hardship to call someone back and if they need to speak to you with such urgency they will leave a message or call back! smiley - biggrin

Keeping little boxes of tissues about the house would negate the need to carry a hanky..... When I was little and going out in a dress where I had nowhere to put my hanky my mother would always make sure that my sister and me always had one tucked into the side of our bloomers! smiley - laugh

Probably not the best place to keep a mobile though...smiley - erm
