I think what Hooloovoo might have read about may be this

http://mb.rxlist.com/rxboard/lipitor.pl?noframes;read=4200

Which is an isolated case related to one specific statin drug and is not general for them all.

This is interesting
Statins can have a beneficial effect on kidneys

Message 20 : Sorry you have health problems, ST, I shouldn't have been so frivolous in my response to you

Weetabix now do a cereal called Oatobix. It tastes foul but it says on the packet that it helps to reduce cholesterol smiley - smiley

Oatibix tastes foul?

When I tried it I thought it tasted almost exactly the same a wheatibix, but had a much wider milk-critical margin-of-error.

With wheatibix you have to be vary careful to put enough milk on so it's not like a brick, but not so much that it goes all soggy. The difference between the two states can be as small as one teaspoon.

With Oatibix you just slosh a bit on and you're good to go.

I popped out and got some of those Jacobs Thai Bites rice crackers that I was on about. I got the chilli ones and they're flippin gorgeous. Seriously crunchy, much more so that potato crisps, and nice and tasty.

They've got hardly any fat, but twice as much carbohydrate as the equivalent sized packet of crisps. I presume that's better for you. I dunno. Definately a good crisp substitute though.

Shame they only do about three flavours.

A Super Furry Animal

I always thought the sogginess of Weetabix varied with time, rather than volume of milk.

But it's been a couple of decades since I had them, so they may have changed?

Well I thought Oatibix were rank too. And it's not a sogginess thing. I just didn't like them although I love Weetabix.

Oddly I also like porridge so smiley - weird

Has anyone managed to actually tell the difference between Weetabix and Weetabix Gold.
I couldn't.

BTW Hooloovoo, I can't really see switching from crisps to lite bites making a blind bit of difference. I'd go the exercise route myself. But then I'm a gym regular so I love it smiley - winkeye

Not on it's own it's just one of the things I'm trying to change in my diet.

Not into exercise just for the sake of exercise, so going to a gym certainly doesn't appeal to me. Dunno what I'm going to do on that front.

What about a bike ? Cycling is good for the heart and also helps to firm your muscles.

I just won a bike in a competition at work. I gave it away to a work collegue. I only entered 'cos I wanted to win something, but he entered 'cos he actually wanted the bike. So I let him have it.

I'd have only used it occasionally on the weekends maybe. I'm certainly not daft enough to go riding on the roads.

My cholesteral levels were measured at 7.7 - nothing to worry about I was told - 6 months later I had a heart attack - they'll take your license away for that !

I'd advise you to get those statins as well - 50% of people don't get to talk about what happens afer a heart attack.

Oh, so can I remind you you said that the next time you complain about my smoking visitor? smiley - cross

I have hereditary high cholesterol in my family, my dad and a couple of my uncles died in their 40s due to heart attacks caused by high cholesterol, but it didn't seem to effect the females in the family. That was in the 70s, we're a lot more aware of cholesterol levels now, so it's more preventable.

I really should get my cholesterol level checked out, all three of my brothers have regular checks, maybe after reading this thread I'll finally get around to it.

Good luck Hooloovoo, maybe you can think of a hobby that involves exercise. smiley - smiley
