No, I remember them! They had a live EP "The S__t Hits the Fans", didn't they? Classic.

SoRB reminded me of my two favorite cover bands marginally wacky names:
Me First & the Gimmee Gimmees - punkish covers of everything from "Hello" to "Nothing Compares to You"
Hayseed Dixie - bluegrass/country covers of AC/DC

Who could forget those refined and genteel young ladies who formed a musical ensemble called "The Slits".

Richard Cheese and Lounge against the Machine... Classic covers, classic cheese. Dick Cheese rocks!
*ahem*
He has several myspace pages, many of their covers are on there to be listened to! Disturbed's 'Down with the sickness' and NIN's 'Closer' are both absolute genius, Cheese style!

Going back to John Peel, the best band name I've ever heard was supposedly that of a band that sent a demo to Peel: Pedigree Scum.

Thanks for the tip on Richard Cheese Excellent.
I'd heard Hayseed Dixie do "Gin & Juice" aswell. Something so satisfying about hearing a Snoop song in an entirely ungangsta setting.

Here on the US Gulf Coast, we have "Better Than Ezra" from New Orleans (a reference to Ezra Pound), and "Asylum Street Spankers" from Austin, TX. The latter is one of my favorite groups, "known for its musicianship, theatricality and militant acousticism" (Wikipedia). They don't use any amps or mikes, so at one concert we had to turn off the vent fans so we could hear them - not usually a problem in a rock music club.

Yes, now you mention it. They had a Top 100 with 'The Cost Of My Colostomy Was Our Love' I seem to remember - Christmas week 1991 with about 6 different formats and picture discs etc(I seem to remember Maiden doing a similar thing to get to number 1 with 'Bring Your Daughter to The Slaughter'). Superb song - 'Cost of...'...only Rammstein get close to what they were doing back then. A band before their time.

Jeremy Vine had them on his show once and was quite obsessive for a while. Usually at 1pm after the news, he plays the jingle they recorded for him.

It's been a fairly consistent source of vague amusement to me that The Worried Men never look particularly concerned...
