Red wine & scotch - can't sleep these days without a glass or two!
If we've gone off the "materialistic" things we wouldn't be able to exist without, then I'll add SLEEP.

Hey hey, I think I was wrong about the wheel!!!!!!
Heard on TV in a prog. about the Industrial Revolution, a couple of nights ago, that the Japanese didn't have the wheel until early 19th century - they used manpower instead!!!!

So we don't need the wheel while we've got men around!!

Doh! Thanks for agreeing with that one.
Must get around to doing some sort of list of "OKs" for this - any volunteers?

I sure don't hope to see that sentence of yours, SHIRPS, twisted some day by clones, androids, cyborgs or just plain machines to something like "We don't need man as long as we have the wheel.
Another thing I'd like to add, is that the matter or non-matter that everything is constructed from, is consciousness. What would we be if not consciouss. What could we percept. How could we even discuss what was essential or not.
Furthermore, if any of you guys would like to expand your consciousness then try reading my entry about Trancendental Meditation. ( I would like a comment, since it's my first entry).

Will visit your site when I have a little more time - a bit rushed now - always thought i ought to learn meditation of some sort!!

I can't say that I agree with the Star Trek comment, but most of the others are true. But you forgot that you can't live (or wake anyway) without coffein. Or at least I couldn't =)

The universe couldn't exist without stupid people. Hear me out.
Lets invent a new measure of stupidness/common senseness. The SCS score, with 100 as an average, like IQ.
Say anyone with a SCS of <50 is stupid. We kill them all. The average is now 125, so anyone with a SCS of <75 is stupid, in comparison to the rest of the population. We do this until
1) We get bored of the massacre and bloodshed, and we are left with some stupid people
2) We get left with one person, who then realises that killing off the rest of the population was -really- stupid, and therefore is obliged by law to kill himself.

(BTW, while he was dying, he did realise it was a really REALLY stupid idea to kill himself. He should have just thrown himself into jail.)

Surely, the universe couldn't exist without clever people too. That is, to make out someone is stupid, they have to be compared to someone who is clever. Like beauty v. ugly. etc. There have to be comparisons don't there?

fatty the underweight canadian vegitarian

i'm surprised no one has hit on the totally irreplacable yet: beaches (the thing, not the movie). seriously, where would we chill out? where would the ocean end? would margaritas exist? how about pina coladas? if you subscribe to evoulution, how would our old fishy selves have climbed up the cliff that would have to be there if beaches weren't? what would have become of archie and the riverdale gang if they didn't have the beach? i'll tell what would have happened, they'd all be fat, cos they'd live a pop tate's, and all they'd ever do would be eat (jughead would still be skinny, man that guy could eat ANYTHING). beaches are a state of mind, where would my mind be stated if not a beach?

As stated before: I thought of things in a "material" sense. We could go on naming all the chemicals & various enzymes, etc., I was thinking about listing the more useable-type things - if you get my drift??!! smiley - smiley
