What is the difference is between a Lexicographer and a Philologist ? This isn't a joke. I really don't know.

Bald Bloke

A Philologist Studies Languages while a Lexicographer compiles Dictionaries.
So all lexicographers would also be philologists but not all philologists would be lexicographers.

Fantastic! thank you...Bald Bloke. It all started when I read Ninety-Eighty Four by George Orwell, there's a charcter in that ( his name is something like Smyth ) and he was a philologist who was compliling the newspeak dictionary. That's where I got confused. You're definition has helped a lot.
