I think this recent 'problem' is not really about what should or shouldn't be posted on 'ask h2g2' but rather was a response to the recent 'flooding' by Footbacon (who has since said they realized it was a bit much and would in future do this sort of thing on their personal journal). Fair enough.
About six weeks ago, after the Madrid bombings there were a lot of threads started on 'ask h2g2' about this and all the various things that surrounded it. And someone (can't remember who) actually started a thread asking about this - how 'ask h2g2' had suddenly become so serious! As there were suddenly threads about politics and various other 'serious' matters.
I think the 'mix' of serious and frivolous does actually work on 'ask h2g2'. And sometimes there is a tendency towards one end of the spectrum or the other. Though I do disagree with flooding 'ask h2g2' with nonsense threads as these end up pushing more serious threads three or four pages back and it takes patience to try and find something more 'interesting' to talk about.
The whole thing about 'ask' is that you can ask anything you want to. But I think it remains the responsibility of researchers not to abuse the site.

I asked two questions, then thought, maybe id *we* are going to have a few questions...
We should have each a *My Questions* thread. So even *when* topic drift happens, it matters less, as a fresh question will re-start the thead from the *owner* of the *My Questions*.
To each there own.
Eh?

Topic drift *always* happens - at least it has always happened on any thread I have ever been on. If it gets totally 'drifty' usually the people on the thread pull it back to the subject being discussed.
The *owner* of My Questions? I'm afraid I don't follow.

A journal of ones questions held in 'Ask' not on a personal space. Some people may still see starting new subject threads as a 'social' big step.
A thread with the user/nickname as the subject titl
